Roc Arenas Doradas HotelAutopista Varadero Km. 12, Varadero
This is our second time at this resort. We were also here March 2016. We came to Arenas Doradas with my two sons and daughter-in-law to renew our vows. Been married 25 years. We had a wonderful time. When we arrived fast check-in and quick walk to our rooms. Block 200 and Block 500. When we returned to the lobby for our first drink there, bartender Daniel recognized us right away from our last trip. There is also Jose, Lisandra and Rollie. The food is above average, especially with the grilling stations and pasta station at the buffet. Chef Hore with his great fried eggs or omelettes, also the gentleman behind the juice bar giving me my banana and orange drink for breakfast. At lunch, either go to the buffet or have a pizza, hot dog or hamburger at the snack bar. Or even go to the buffet by the beach, they serve different from the main buffet and you can get meats also. At the beach bar, Meladie is wonderful and I forgot the name of the other wonderful lady behind the bar. Go there first thing after breakfast and get my mug of ceasar. Always smiling and very amusing. At the pool bar, Daisy and another young beautiful lady behind the bar. We would see Jesus a couple of times there and he was also helping in the buffet.Daisy with her wonderful smile. Again they remembered us from our last trip and welcomed us with open arms and remembered what we had for drinks. The pool was refreshing and clean and there many lounge chairs for everyone and areas for people wanting shade. There is seating around the pool bar. The groundskeepers always keep the property clean and tidy. I met Carlos, Joel and many others. We had the chance to see one of them climb a palm tree and take down some coconuts. Made it look easy. The coffee bar. Great cup of coffee. Maria, Miranda and sometimes Rafael. Always in a good mood and very friendly. In regards to excursions, the catamaran is a must. Havana tour, Jeep Safari. Or even rent an old style taxi and go into Varadero and other ares to see Cuba. Go snorkeling at the coral reef, go to Saturno caves or into town to the market. The beach with its fine white sand with plenty of lounges. The staff clean/wipes the lounge chairs every morning and beach is clean of weeds. Kayaks, paddle boats available including beach volleyball. Great for walks and jogging. I had the opportunity to meet Agustin at the beach bar, who is the general manager of Arenas Doradas. He is a great gentleman. He wished us congratulations for our mile stone and asked if we were the ones that had the gazebo ceremony which I confirmed. The ceremony was organized by Yola and they did a great job decorating the gazezo and had a cake made for us which we ate at the a la carte International. For entertainment, the staff around the pool and at the beach organized activities from playing darts, tossing rings, soccer , etc. Music being played by Ahmed. Like to thank Eli, Dayla, Enfry and Otto. In the evenings, there was various events on the stage from magic acts, musicians and dancing. My wife's favorite night were Wednesday and Friday because we ended meeting Alex and Herin who were dancers from the first time we went to Arenas and they recognized us immediately and welcomed us back. We are returning again in May. We thank everyone at Arenas and would recommend this resort to others. Agustin, I hope to see you again when we return. Jacques and Carin
I was at the Roc in April, 16. My sister and myself felt at home right away, so much so we are returning with a larger group in April, 17. The beach was fantastic, food was fine, shows were great, rooms were great but most of all the staff were fun and extremely personable. Also, going into the city of Varadero is more then safe to go on your own as we did and got to experience a different side of Cuba.
Just returned after staying 1st two weeks of November 2016. Should be downgraded to 3 1/2 star. Most employees are good, however serious issues with management. Building I was in had no exterior lights in hallways or outside building, resulting in finding your way up stairs in complete darkness. Spoke to manger several times, and he said he would fix it. Never happened. Not only is that a safety issue but also a potential serious problem in the event of an emergency. Water is barely warm making it an uncomfortable shower.
We stayed at Roc Arenas Doradas for one week being Sept. 9th. We chose the resort especially for its 4 star rating. To our dismay, when we arrived we discovered that it was only 4-star in name (despite what was showcased on the website). The rooms were beyond unacceptable with issues ranges from extremely outdated beds and bathroom accessories to rotting wood in the closet. Beyond the issues with our room, on our third day at the resort they closed the pool which would not reopen for three full days. During this time, the drained the pool and retiled sections and regrouted the entire pool. While this was ongoing none of the resort staff were able to give us a clear answer of when the pool would be reopened. During the process of refilling the pool, our toilet went out because there was not sufficient water pressure on the resort. The food on the resort was meh at best and we were unpleased with our trip and would not recommend staying here.
Not worth you money. Racist front desk staff. Bad food. False advertisements
We were there in August for 2 weeks, the most fun we have had in Cuba, the staff was awesome, LaSandra at the front lobby bar stole my heart , the best drinks, treated us like gold, Jesus at the beach bar, Armondo at the pool bar, just awesome and the whole pool staff of entertainers made the holliday special. My one and only gripe was the bed was to hard. We will definatley be back this year, superb resort for sure. Ken and Diane Foster, Orillia
